Having a well-trained and capable caregiver is of paramount importance in elderly care. Bed-sore prevention, reducing joint contractures, regaining physical and mental strength, avoidance of aspiration pneumonia, minimising urinary tract infection, ensuring adequate hydration and nutrition, paying attention to bowel movement, maintaining infection control and hygiene, eye and oral care – these are all highly dependent on the diligence and expertise of care-giving.
Orange Valley has been an Approved Training Centre for ITE Skills Certificate in Healthcare (Homecare) since 2004. We have experienced and committed Clinical Instructors to drill in the importance of quality nursing care in the maintenance of a quality life lifestyle. Our “Caring for Life” motto means that we provide great care throughout the “Life” duration that the person is in our hands, as well as ensure that this “Life” is always lived out meaningfully.
Being appropriately trained also reduces incidences of caregiver fatigue, injury and illness.
Thus, here at Orange Valley, we are enthusiastic in encouraging caregiver training, not just in our own staff, but also in family members, well-meaning friends, volunteers and domestic helpers. We recognise nothing beats having a dedicated caregiver, as therapists, medical and nursing staff will never be around enough. We also believe that the best place for an elderly is still in their own home, and having a zealous caregiver gives them this chance of returning to their natural abode.
